ACL Prevention??

Can you prevent an ACL Injury??

The answer is no...nothing is 100% preventable because in sports.....things happen. There is always a risk of injury when playing sports; someone can contact you unexpectedly or you step on someone else's foot, etc.

Although accidents happen and contact occurs in sports, the number of non-contact ACL injuries is about 67%! This means that it happens because of some muscular imbalance, mobility deficit, or poor movement control.

This is where we can make a difference when it comes to injury prevention! Again, we can not 100% prevent the injury from happening but we can significantly reduce the risk of the injury!

We reduce the risk of injury by addressing muscular imbalances, improving any mobility deficits, improving movement patterns, and improving control and stability.

This will include some of the following: working on the flexibility of involved muscles, strengthening your core and posterior chain, and ensuring you are cutting, jumping, and running correctly. You’ll want to seek out a highly qualified physical therapist to perform a thorough assessment to provide a game plan for you to follow. If you’re in the Carlsbad / north county San Diego area, contact us and we’ll help you put your mind at ease.

Now you wanna know something awesome?! Research has shown that a quality ACL prevention program can reduce injury risk by as much as 75% if executed properly. A proper program would include strength training, motor learning, balance training, and plyometrics. Just running through a bunch of random exercises without ensuring correct technique or performing them improperly is gonna be a major waste of time and not give you the outcome you’re looking for.

Here’s the nice part...not only will you learn how to minimize your risk of injury but you’ll also enhance your performance by getting better, faster, quicker, and stronger.
